Dear Jim,
According to what I learned from the Urantia Revelation---the Plan of Creation--in regards to human life on Earth---is best viewed with the description---"the purpose of life". Humans were created from the Earth--Stardust. Our goal is to Find God on Paradise, to one day stand before Him. To get there; will take ages and many lessons. A good starting point is to understand how little we really know, even about ourselves. Mastering ourselves is job number one. We start by serving others, through prayer, and meditation. In mastering ourselves----there will likely be much pain---as this is what teaches us the trure meaning of humility. Intelligence is one thing and; personal experience---quite another. Knowledge plus experience is what leads to wisdom. When we experience another person's suffering---then----we can learn compassion. Compassion leads to unconditional love. Unconditional love leads to God.
According to the book; the goal for the mankind of Earth is to reach the Age of Light and Life. This process on a developing 4 billion year old planet such as ours typically goes through the following stages:
The Nutrition Epocl----the incessant search for food
The Security Age-----the technique of war--self preservation
The Material Comfort Age----where man attains personal comfort through technology
The Quest for Knowledge and Wisdom---the development of culture
The Epoch of Philosophy and Brotherhood
The Age of Spiritual Striving
The Era of Light and Life----when man can a last begin to live as sons and daughter of God
God does have a Plan of Creation. The Urantia Book is ALL ABOUT God's Plan of Creation. Since our known universe is about 14 billion years old----there is a huge amount of information that must be assimilated in order to even begin to understand the big picture. You and I are but tiny grains of sand on the beach of life.
We can learn a lot; but as finite-created beings----it will take us a long time to understand the infinite God and His Creation. Our earth lives are just the first step---kindergarden. Whenever I begin to think I am smart----I try to remember that I am dust in the wind.
