Sharing God's New Covenant with the World Since 1975
Spiritual growth can be a slow, painful progress. One step forward, two steps back. We try to overcome our weaknesses diligently and we may even pretend that we are pretty close to being perfect in order to keep up pretences. But deep in our hearts we know that the water running underground, is not a crystal clear spring. For some of us; our anger and rage centers are still active. For some; we can't seem to shake our critical and judgmental minds. For some, our biological urges are still controlling our behavior; even taking us to places we know are not allowing us to connect to the deep presence of a pure atmosphere. For some; our ability to love unconditionally is missing. And we fight; and we fight with ourselves; trying to get dominion. Sometimes we lose the battle; and even though the ideals of perfection still drive us; we find ourselves lost; for years and perhaps decades. We seem to be trapped in living an ego-centered life intead of a love-saturated life.
Our minds won't slow down; and we may have become addicicted to the busyness of the world and all of its minutia and substances. We might not even be able pray or experience quietness of mind (deep peace) anymore.
How do we find our way when we are in such a state, stuck in neutral or even reverse?
A few months ago; I believe that God intervened in my life. I had a stroke. It took out a substantial part of the compulsive side of my brain. My left side became numb; and suddenly; I was transported into a silent world of expansiveness and grandeur. Time lost its meaning; and serenity and peace reigned supreme. I was given to long walks out in the countryside----and it was there; that I discovered what a wonderful gift I had been given. I discovered more about prayer and meditation. I learned that prayer is "uploading" and meditation is "downloading". Now,I try each day to get out with my two dogs and just walk; meditate; and pray. God has always lived within me; but; now; I feel His loving presence more and more. There is no experience that can ever compare to walking with God, out in the nature in Alaska.
God is total, unconditional love and total, unconditional forgiveness. God lives in the present moment. What happened in the past is history; and the future has not yet arrived. When, we get into the present moment; in an attitude of gratitude; and an attitude of repentance (if necessary); and ask Him to take charge of our lives; desiring to turn our entire lives over to Him-----He will open those doorways and welcome you and begin to change you; step by step; day by day.
We all are Prodigal Sons and Daughters of God. God allows us to go out into the world of discovery; and welcomes us when we return home; wiser and more humble. We may have a few scars (or a bunch of them)----but they are the shields that will protect us from ever leaving Him again.
Our time on this world is but a moment in time. There is nothing more important in using your allotted time on earth than to get into the Prescence of the Creator and consciously turn your life over to His control---so that He may fill you with love and service.
